Our last day of term floor picnic!
Today in Junior Infants we worked so hard. We have been learning all about different materials. We have learnt that glass is created with sand and that plastic comes from Oil.
Today we did an experiment to find our what material would make the best coat. We looked at the materials and predicted what would happen.
We then tested our materials. Have a look below to see how we got on.
Results
Tinfoil and clingfilm worked the best!
Two groups thought the paper worked and two thought it didn't so it was a tie!
Tissue did not work at all.
Dear parents and guardians,
In 2018, our school joined 5 other Educate Together schools in forming a ‘Digital Cluster’ - a group of like-minded schools with a vision for building supports for Educate Together schools nationally, in delivering our Ethical Education curriculum. This cluster of schools was able to tap into a funding opportunity provided by the Department of Education, on the basis that the focus of our work would be digital in nature.
We are now in the third and final year of this collaborative project, and our community has benefited from being a part of the creation of a digital repository for teaching and learning resources. Staff members have engaged in CPD on relevant software, platforms and apps, and our school has been able to add to our ICT infrastructure in the form of a class set of Chromebooks and cameras.
Towards the end of this academic year, our cluster of schools; as well as others around the country; will be represented at an education exhibition of all of the initiatives that have been linked with this grant. Our cluster will share with other teachers, our experiences of building an extensive repository of teaching resources, as well as of the impact that the cameras and chromebooks have had on our ability to engage with learning in a modern, meaningful way.
In December and January, as part of a learning unit around perspective taking and empathy, Aoife B’s 4th class aim to complete a unit of basic photography skills. The idea is that 4th class pupils would take photographs of Junior Infant pupils (Sarah L’s class) at play, from a distance, unnamed. Aoife’s class would then partake in creative writing/art using the photographs as a stimulus. These photos would be taken in an outdoor setting, with physical distancing observed. This work will be shared on Sarah’s and Aoife’s class websites, as well as potentially being displayed at the above-mentioned exhibition in 2021. Your child’s name will not be published alongside their picture.
We hope you support this Educate Together digital learning project by giving permission for your child to be involved. Children for whom we do not have permission will play in a slightly different space for the duration of the photography session. Please complete the form below by Wednesday 16 December to indicate whether you give permission for your child or not.
We look forward to sharing the pupils’ project work with you.
Many thanks and kind regards,
Aoife Blood Sarah Low
