Hot Chocolate Time!As it is now the season of winter, we decided to focus on something that makes us warm on the inside and happy on the outside - hot chocolate of course! We used milk and hot chocolate powder. Everyone had a choice of toppings - marshmallows or chocolate flake (or both!). Everyone got a chance to add some of the powder and stir the mixture. We were VERY happy as you can see below :) Thanks to Linda for bringing in her slow cooker for us to use and to Sinead for helping us serve the yummy hot chocolate when it was ready!

Let's CountIn Maths when we are learning about numbers, we like to bring them to life a little! There's no better way to do that than using ourselves!! We made "human number sentences" to help us see how we can add numbers together. We used hulu hoops, ourselves, and volunteers to be the + and = signs.
Bats everywhere!Senior Infants were learning about nocturnal animals this month so we decided to make bats. Thanks to everyone for collecting the toilet roll holders for our craft! It took us a few days to make them as there were a few steps involved. We needed toilet roll holders, black paint, pipe cleaners for eyes, bat wings which we cut out and painted, googly eyes, and sequins to decorate!
Feeling the Love!As part of our school's Restorative Practice journey, we are really enjoying learning about its values which have the acronym FRIENDS. We learnt about something called a "Love Bomb". This is when you spread love and kindness to someone and it really makes them feel special. We made beautiful heart sun catchers which we stuck on our window. To do this, we cut out little pieces of coloured tissue paper, we then stuck them onto laminating pouches and then Emer laminated them for us. After that, we cut out the heart shape! There was so much love and kindness in our class that we had just had to show it on our "Love Bomb Tracker". Every time we are kind or helpful to each other we get to fill in a heart! The giraffe is the animal that we always talk about in Restorative Practice because it has the biggest heart of all land animals and it uses it's long neck to see things from other people's perspectives. If we are being kind and calm then we are being like a giraffe. We can ask ourselves "Did you Giraffe? to check if we were being kind to others!
We also learnt about the crocodile. If we are acting like the crocodile then we are being snappy and a little angry. It's important to know if we are being like a crocodile because then we can remind ourselves to be more like a giraffe again :) We have a little soft giraffe toy in our classroom. We voted to call him/her Fluffy! We LOVE when Fluffy talks to us about kindness. We have loved learning about giraffe's so much that we created gorgeous giraffe art work. We tucked away one finger and traced the other four to create a giraffe outline. We then coloured the spots on, added googly eyes, and a smile! First, Next, Last!We have been busy learning how to retell stories/rhymes by figuring out which events happened first, next, and last. When we retell stories in the correct order we called that "sequencing". We sequenced the "Incy Wincy Spider" rhyme. We worked together in groups. We really enjoyed working as a team. We had to figure out how to sequence the story, stick the pieces of paper together, and colour in as a team. It was great fun! We also learnt about the story of the "Gingerbread Man". We then sequenced this story as a team again. We had so much fun learning about the Gingerbread Man that we then created tasty Gingerbread Man art work! We also did some Gingerbread Man drama where we had to be different characters from the story.
Autumn Fun!We have spent lots of time learning about the beautiful and colourful season of autumn in Senior Infants. We created a nature table which displayed different leaves and seeds showing their autumn colours. We learnt a poem called "I See Leaves" which tells us about the different colours the leaves turn in autumn. We also created fabulous autumn art by drawing a tree and then decorating it with autumn leaves. To do the leaves, we dipped cotton buds in paint and dotted them on! It's been a wonderful experience for the children to get the opportunity to have their yard times on our grass area at the back of the school this year. Naturally, they love it! We decided to create this "Grass Agreement" to help everyone play safely and respect their new play area too.
The children were very happy to pair up and draw portraits of each other. They focused on making sure they correctly coloured their friends unique features such as hair colour, skin colour, eye colour and clothing. They created these gorgeous portraits of each other!
